Key figures as we use and understand them

Our strategy is aimed at sustained growth and value creation for all stakeholders. We use financial and non-financial performance indicators consistantly and pervasively for management and control purposes. These include figures and measures determined in accordance with the »International Financial Reporting Standards« (IFRS) and which may be considered as being »Alternative Performance Measures«. Nur in wenigen Ausnahmefällen verwenden wir zusätzlich auch bereinigte Kennzahlen.

The following provides a brief explanation of some these important figures and measures.

01

EBITDA (IFRS)

EBITDA stands for »Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation and Amortisation«.
02

EBITA (IFRS)

EBITA stands for »Earnings Before Interest, Tax and Amortisation«.
03

EBIT (IFRS)

EBIT stands for »Earnings Before Interest and Tax«. We also use »operating results« and »operating earnings« for EBIT.
04

EBIT before M&A effects (non-IFRS)

EBIT before M&A effects (»Mergers & Acquisitions«) refers to »Earnings Before Interest and Tax« adjusted for acquisition-related income and expenses.
05

EBT (IFRS)

EBT stands for »Earnings Before Tax«. EBT also includes interest income and interest expense, but not income tax.
06

Earnings after Tax (IFRS)

To calculate the key figure »Earnings After Tax«, income tax is deducted from the earnings before tax.

Non-Financial Performance Indicators

01

Employee Retention

The success of our business depends in no small part to the quality we offer our clients, business partners, suppliers and shareholders. Personnel continuity and the abiltiy on this basis to establish and maintain business partner relationships that are stable, sustainable and resiliant play a tremendous role in how the quality of our service and support is perceived. The control indicator we use for this purpose is the employee retention rate (100% minus the ratio of undesired separations to the staffing strength at the beginning of the reporting period, plus additions to the workforce during the reporting year).
02

Health Index

The aim of our health management programme is to maintain and enhance our workforces's high level of capabilities and effectiveness. We also want to proactively counteract potential health-related absences. A health index(100% minus the number of sick days relative to the scheduled working days of a given reporting peroid) serves as a control indicator to help us achieve these objectives.
